The birth
Annebel was born on the 13th of April in 1990. We tought that the second pregnacy was going well; the baby was growing good. But after 38 week my bloodpresure became higher and higher. When we had to go to the hospital for a control, in the 42th week, it seamed that I was helding too much water in my body. When we arrived in the hospital they told us that the next day the birth would be aroused, because I had a pregnacy poisoning, fortunatly it was not really bad. But at night the labour came spontaniously. The labour wend very well, but just like our first daughter Annebel had a meconium aspiratie (sucking the first poo in the lungs). Unfortunatly it came very deeply in her lungs. Inmediatly the started giving Annebel very heavy antibiotics, because of the danger of infections. And also Annebel seamed to have epilepsia, it could been seen just a few hours after she was born. We were very delighted about having an other baby, but it didn''t wend how we expected it would be. Just after she was born, Annebel was taking in high speed by the ambulance to the hospital in Rotterdam for further medical treatment. The next days were very critical, Annebel stayed at the I.C. (intensive care). But after a week the doctors told us that we could take her home, we were so happy! But when we were at home we saw some things that couldn''t be right. Things like, real quik eye-movements, and when we took a bath with here she cried and streched her whole body. Also here muscles weren''t that strong that''s why she was also very slow with some movements of her head, which a baby normally can on that age. You notice that there are some specific psycical things which can''t be right for such a young child. A lot of people like doctors and so on tried to comfort us with words like: ''''she had a rough birth... she''ll be fine... give it just a little bit of time.'''' At the first control Annebel got paralized for a few minutes. The doctors wanted to give here ''''stesolid'''' because he tought that she had an epileptical attack. Research The doctor sugested to send us to a specialized childrenshospital for neurological research. And maybe to test Annebel in an other hospital for some allergic reactions. It seamed that Annebel had none. In the childrenshospital Annebel had some test. After a week full of stresful moments the results were there. Annebel was diagnosed with: AHC. What next? They just send you home, because there''s a little bit of information about AHC. By internet we found an other family with a daughter with AHC, they''re living in the US. Theire daughter has the same age as Annebel. We also found a Dutch family by internet, with a child diagnosed with AHC. The resaerch for the cause had been started, but no one could gve us some medical advise. The inly madical advise was that we had to give Annebel ''''Sibelium'''' (or ''''Flunarizine'''') But now we can see that it''s clear that it doesn''t helps Annebel in any way. As a matter of fact it could have even been better not to give her the medicin at all. The beginning of the Epilepsy Annebel was four years old when she had in a swimmingpool her first epileptical attack, it finally stopped when she got medicins in the nearest hospital. Afters a year we started with a medicin against Epilepsy. In the hospital there were made some ''''E.E.G- scans'''', but they couldn''t see were or If Annebel really had epilepsy. They could see that just after an attack there were some epileptical activities in here brains. We could see that every two week Annebel was totally paralized for five days. She is so in pain when the moment is there again that she''s paralized again. After five days Annbel was for a couple of days still halfways paralized. After that period everything was just fine. But then it started over and over again.. There was a time that for here totally be paralized was history. History?!?! No, unfortunatly in the winter it''s comming back more worse than ever before. Specially when she goes from a nice and warm room to a chilly temperature, she''ll always get totally paralized after such an experience. ''''Movements'''' Annebel started very lately with walking, she started walking when she was four years old. Her excact ''''motoriek'''' still isn''t the way how it should be. Running, jumping, cycling (on a special bike) is very hard for her. She also wears special shoes. Now In these days Annebel is going to the ''''VSO''''. Last year we decided to skip the school activities and make things more practical. So Annebel can do things al by herself. But still sometimes she get''s paralized in some way. She also uses a wheelchair if it''s necessary. But ofcourse it''s still very frustrating for her to be dependend for a 100%of her environment, and the next moment she can do things on her own. It''s not dark, it''s not light. Three steps forward, two steps backwards. Were will we end? No one knows.
